Sprite movie in After Effects?

Posted by MaxR - September 21st, 2012

While working on the next chapter of my Little Fighter Alpha series, I was wondering whether there has been a decent sprite movie out there done in Adobe After Effects. That is the software I am currently using for making Chapter 10 of Little Fighter Alpha. If anybody knows of one, please let me know! I would like to see it for inspiration!

Sprite movie in After Effects?

Cool. But wouldn't flash be easier to animate a sprite movie? Or any fbf programs.
I'll probably animate in flash then composite and do the effects in AE.
But anyway looking forward to see the end result. I'm sure it'll look pretty awesome. :)

I like how I can put my sprites into a 3d space but still animate it in 2d. Check it out once it's done!

mmhmm.

To guy at the bottom,

After effects is great when you have all of your drawings or art together. Just put it in a composition or call to the frame you want to use from the main time comp. Not like you couldn't do that with graphic symbols in flash though, but its nice to have all of the transitions, effects and functions with their adjustable presets at your disposal.

I haven't used Flash CS6 yet but I like how having the option of cameras and lighting in After Effects. Importing a finished animation from Flash isn't able to use those two elements. Although using After Effects only to animate only make sense only when used with sprites.

actually there has been quiet a few made in after effects but not 100%. They the raw animation in flash and added effects and caming in after effects. Look up "MBR: Derek vs Nivlac" made my spritefan2 on youtube.

Thanks. That's a good use of After Effects, but you're right, not quite 100%.

I use a combination of Blender and After Effects. I use Blender for the animation since it is more powerful and I can have more complex environments and renders, and the AE export script turns that animation into AE keyframes for additional animation and visual effects. That's my method so far for the Death Battle series, though if I wanted to I could animate purely in AE using similar techniques.

That's cool. I've been thinking of using Cinema 4D and After Effects together too. I heard Cinema 4D integrates into After Effects pretty well, although the software isn't free like Blender.

Btw, looks like Death Battle series animates the sprites only in After Effects and not in Flash, that's what I was looking for! Thanks.

You already know how to use After Effects or any course or tutorial.. Which program you used to animate it..?
